A year ago - Part 1

I like to reminisce about the past and for obvious reasons I've recently been thinking about what we were up to a year ago and how our lives drastically changed! A year ago today, was a pretty low-key day. Like any supportive wife I went to watch my husband coach middle school basketball. My belly was quite large so anywhere I went it was always the topic of conversation. This day (10 days before my due date) was no exception as players' moms asked the usual questions such as "how are you feeling?" "are you ready to have that baby?" "have you had any braxton hicks yet?" "Oh, what's Derek going to do if you go into labor during a basketball game or practice?" "did I tell you about all the details of each of my labors?" I won't lie, all the attention a pregnant belly brings is kinda fun! Most moms go into a nesting frenzy...I'm not sure what's wrong with me but I didn't. I ignorantly thought I'd have time to do all that stuff once the baby arrived (was I on heavy drugs??). No, as we approached my due date instead of nesting, I rested and relaxed and enjoyed 8+ hours of consecutive sleep at night and as many naps during the day while I still could. So, undoubtedly after that basketball game I went home and took a nap...cuz I could, cuz no one needed me to take care of him/her!

From a couple different people we had heard about a restaurant in Atlanta called Scalini's which has some kind of crazy eggplant parmesean dish that is known for causing women who are full term to go into labor. If you are 9 months pregnant and you want to go into labor, supposedly the best thing to do is go to Scalini's and eat their eggplant parmesean. If whatever they have in that dish does the trick and you deliver your baby within 48 hours then you get a t-shirt for your baby, a $25 gift certificate to return to Scalini's to stuff yourself with grease and carbs AND you get to put your baby's picture on their famous "baby wall". So, we laughed at the thought of such a random dish actually triggering a labor and delivery process but what did we have to lose? We might as well go eat there for the fun of it. What else is there to do on a Saturday night when you have no little person at home to take care of?! So we headed to Scalini's and this is what I ate

Doesn't that greasy goodness just make your mouth water?!

Well, my water didn't break as we were leaving the booth so we figured we just had a good meal and that was the end of that. We went to bed that night (a year ago) still waiting and wondering...."when will our baby come?" "is it a boy or a girl?" "will he/she be athletic?" "will we be good parents?" "will it have Derek's eyes?" "my long fingers and legs?"....

STAY TUNED FOR THE REST OF THAT STORY.....
